Ian (Hutch) and Maggie Hutchinson purchased the farm from Maggie’s (nee Berger) family estate in July 2016 with the objective of “something to do in retirement”.
Hutch has a consulting engineering practice in Orewa and completes farm work outside business hours.
Maggie keeps an eye on the 135 Ha (330 acre) farm during the day as well as sitting on the council of the NZ Red Devon Cattle Breeders Association.
For reasons of sustainability the farm is purposely lightly stocked with around 100 Red Devon Beef cattle and 40 Wiltshire sheep.
With the objective of “easy farming” in mind, the property has been fenced, raced, reticulated and planted to produce an easily managed operation.
